After 60 replies to the survey here are the results.
Overwhelmingly people are annoyed by loud eating and alarms, the two biggies. Followed in third place by the mother of insomnia, snoring.
This is an interesting one, a strong majority of people like the tv or radio on in the background,I often wonder why people like to have a constant source of background sound on as I never have liked it, I find it distracting but I suppose for others it helps them to focus.
Below is the majority of the responses to the question "are you distracted by any particular sounds" and it is clear that most people dislike repetitive and aggressive sounds such as ticking, alarms and ring tomes, snoring, etc.
This is interesting when compared to the question of background sound.
Sound can be as much a source of comfort as it can a source of torture as it does have physical effects on the body so the manipulation of frequency and volume along with repetition will easily change how we respond.
